EDRD 400 - Teaching and Supporting Literacy Learning in Elementary Classrooms
Designed to review the current thinking, approaches, and methodology of teaching literacy in elementary schools. Attention is directed to theories of literacy, emergent literacy, automatic word recognition, comprehension, vocabulary, and strategic knowledge, as well as the planning of a comprehensive literacy program, with emphasis on supporting the learning of struggling readers and writers in the elementary grades. Prerequisite: completion of decision point 1: admission to the teacher education program. May be repeated only once.
