Economics affects sports players, teams, leagues and institutions. The course applies economic principles to sports and covers topics such as the organization of sports, the market for franchises, financing sports venues, ticket prices, labor relations, player drafts, athlete compensation, betting markets, cooperative, collusive and competitive strategic behaviors in sports, and anti-trust issues. Students successfully completing this course will be able to understand and apply economic principles to sports and in their own lives. Prerequisite: ECON 201; ECON 221 or MATH 221 or 321.
